Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent expression of GFAP. Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent analyses of cross sections of diabetic retinas showed an increased expression of GFAP in cells with a morphology and spatial organization similar to those seen in Müller cells (arrow). GFAP immunoreactivity is higher in diabetic rats than in controls. The expression of GFAP in the peripheral retina was much more extended in diabetic rats fed on a HFD than in rats on a normal diet.
