Preliminary Experiment. Gross photographs of porcine tarsal plate after 30-min treatment with standard 0.1% riboflavin in isotonic 20% dextran (ā€œstandardā€), 0.1% riboflavin in isotonic 20% dextran with 0.05% benzalkonium chloride (BAK) (ā€œisotonic + BAKā€), 0.1% riboflavin in hypotonic 20% dextran (ā€œhypotonicā€), and 0.1% riboflavin in hypotonic 20% dextran with 0.05% BAK (ā€œhypotonic + BAKā€). Conjunctiva was dissected off in one group (ā€œconjunctiva OFFā€), and left intact for an additional group of specimens (ā€œconjunctiva ONā€). Greater tissue stiffness was observed grossly in treatment specimens as compared to controls, and this effect seemed to be greater in ā€œconjunctiva OFFā€ treatment specimens, but photographs lacked standardization
