In 2020, the retina service saw an increase in the proportion of telehealth visits relative to in-person encounters. Whereas in 2019 telehealth visits did not occur at all, during the peak pandemic period in Massachusetts, telehealth was being leveraged in over 50 % of all retina patient encounters on a weekly basis.
