Serum patterns for two exemplary PUFAs for patients with retinal disease and controls. Top row shows serum levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6), an omega-3 fatty acid, bottom row shows the same for arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4), an omega-6 fatty acid. In this analysis, patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR), retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) were subdivided into their respective subgroups as indicated. No significant differences were detected across groups. The same is true for all other PUFAs investigated (not shown).
