Table 1 Scoring system used for the assessment of retinal boundary detection errors

From: The effect of incorrect scanning distance on boundary detection errors and macular thickness measurements by spectral domain optical coherence tomography: a cross sectional study

1 point

Any boundary detection error (deviation of at least 4×10 pixels [height x width])

1 point

Any boundary detection error within the area of the fovea (central 1 mm of the 5 mm long scan)

1 point

The sum of horizontal errors exceeds 1 mm

1 point

The sum of horizontal errors exceeds 3 mm

1 point

The sum of vertical errors exceeds 1/3 of total retinal thickness

1 point

The sum of vertical errors exceeds 1/3 of total retinal thickness

  1. When retinal boundary detection errors were present in both the inner and outer retinal boundaries, the errors were summed to assess the severity of the axial or transverse error.
