Comparison of MLC density between groups of different DR stages (PDR vs. NPDR) and groups with or without DME. DME only increased the number of MLCs in NPDR group, not in the PDR group. In eyes without DME, proliferation stage increased number of MLCs. In eyes with DME, no similar effect of proliferation stage was found
